When babies have respiratory or nasal congestion, vaporizers can help alleviate discomfort by adding soothing moisture into the dry indoor air of a bedroom. This vaporizer's 2-gallon capacity allows it to produce steam for approximately 24 to 32 hours. (It automatically stops producing steam when the water level goes below .75 inch.) A tester found that the steam was sluggish until a few pinches of salt were added to the water (a trick suggested by the manufacturer). The electrical heating unit detaches from the water holder, making cleanup easy--an important daily chore for preventing mineral buildup and stains. Comes with a built-in nightlight and a small tray for holding vaporizer medications.

Safety note: Once children can get out of bed on their own bedroom vaporizers can become hazardous, as they produce hot steam that can cause serious burns if the unit is knocked over. Be sure to keep cord and vaporizer far from baby's reach. --Hannah Reynolds Vicks V200; 2 gallon; 20-24 hour operation.
